BJP to do introspection

Bharatiya Janata Party will hold a series of meetings and conclaves to help it introspect and arrive at some conclusions on the reasons for its defeat in the Lok Sabha election, and perhaps come out with a road map on the need to change itself in keeping with the new emerging India.

Ms. Swaraj confirmed that the BJP would soon organise a chintan baithak — a brainstorming session — to discuss the poll debacle. She said it would give an opportunity for party leaders “to speak their minds.” Before that, the BJP core committee is expected to meet on June 10 and the national executive committee on June 20 and 21. The main theme at these meetings would be the poll fiasco.

  • Although in every previous chintan baithak the RSS participated, Ms. Swaraj said this was “not necessary.” She was replying to a question whether RSS leaders would be present. Some other BJP leaders, however, are certain that the RSS would and “should” participate. After all, RSS cadres worked actively for the BJP in the Lok Sabha election.
